1. Our Commitment to the Community
Checkpoint Canarias provides free, anonymous, and strictly confidential rapid testing for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis
B/C, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhoea, alongside professional sexual health consultations. We welcome the local
community as well as the vibrant LGBT+ tourist and traveller community visiting Maspalomas and the Yumbo Centre.
Because our voluntary, community-led infrastructure operates with limited resources and high demand, this Fair Use
Policy ensures that everyone can access rapid testing safely, equitably, and without unnecessary delay.
2. Anonymous Registration & Accurate Contact Rules
- Anonymity vs. Identification: To maintain a low-barrier space, we do not require your full official name—only
the first letter or initial of your name is required.
- Valid Contact Requirements: While you remain anonymous, Our system requires that you must provide a valid email address and a mobile phone number together with ID and date of birth when booking through our portal. These are used strictly for automated appointment confirmation, cancellations, and vital service alerts.
- To make your appointment automatically and maintain your records we do require the information in the form. Our service is completely autonomous and independent of both public and private health providers and hence your anonymity remains assured.
- Bookings with fake, unreachable, or temporary “burner” emails will be flagged and automatically cancelled to free up slots.
3. Fair Scheduling & Appointment Capacity Limits
Our clinical schedule fills up very quickly, generally keeping fully booked up to 2 weeks in advance. To prevent
booking bottlenecks:
- The Two-Week Rule: Our appointment calendar is systematically opened in the last week of each month for the
upcoming month. If no appointments are visible, it means the current two-week block is entirely occupied.
- Booking Limits: Individuals are requested to book routine screenings no more than once per 3 months unless
they have a known exposure, are experiencing active symptoms, or have been advised to return by a clinician.
- Duplicate Bookings: Users may not book multiple tentative slots for themselves within the same month.
Duplicate bookings under the same initial/email combination will be deleted to ensure fair access for peers who
have had recent high-risk exposures.
4. Cancellation and “No-Show” Terms
Every missed appointment directly deprives someone else in the community of a free sexual health window.
- 24-Hour Notice: If you cannot make your scheduled time, you must cancel using the link provided in your
confirmation email at least 24 hours before your slot.
- No-Show Tracking: Individuals who register multiple “No-Shows” (failing to attend without cancelling) may have
their email addresses or booking access temporarily restricted on our automated scheduling system.
5. Scope of Service & Referrals
- Rapid Screening Only: Checkpoint Canarias specialises in fast, rapid diagnostic screening. We are not a
long-term medical clinic or an emergency room.
- PEP & Emergency Intervention: If you have had an HIV exposure within the last 72 hours, time is critical. You
should not wait for an open appointment slot at our centre. Go immediately to a Hospital Emergency Room
(Urgencias) within the Canary Islands Health System (SCS) to access Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP).
- PrEP and Complex Care: Long-term treatments, detailed clinical oversight, and PrEP configurations are
managed directly by specialised hospital HIV departments or local public health networks. When a rapid test
returns a reactive result, our role is to provide immediate, supportive counselling and direct you to the appropriate
specialist government facilities.
6. Code of Conduct: Safe Space
Checkpoint Canarias is a judgement-free, community-run space that embraces sexuality openly. We maintain zero
tolerance for aggressive behaviour, harassment, discrimination, or stigma toward our healthcare professionals,
volunteers, or other visitors. Violating this safe space will result in immediate removal from the facility and a
permanent denial of non-emergency services.
